The Stronger Together Mentor Program connects individuals and families who are newly navigating a rare retinal disease with those who have already walked this path and are ready to share what they\u2019ve learned.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s something powerful about talking to someone who truly understands\u2014the questions, the decisions, the day-to-day adjustments, and the moments no one else quite relates to. This program creates space for those conversations, pairing families in a way that fosters connection, perspective, and steady support.<\/p>\n

For individuals or families seeking guidance, it\u2019s an opportunity to connect with someone who\u2019s been there\u2014who can listen, share, and walk alongside you as you find your footing. For individuals or families further along in their journey, it\u2019s a meaningful way to give back, offering encouragement and insight that can make a real difference for someone just beginning.<\/p>\n

Stronger Together Mentor Program Guidelines<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

  • At this time, participants must be 18 years of age or older<\/strong> to take part in the program. We hope to expand the program to teens in the future.<\/li>\n
  • This program is designed for peer support and shared experience<\/strong>. Mentors are not medical professionals, and medical, legal, or clinical advice should not be given or relied upon<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • Participation is voluntary<\/strong>, and families engage at their own discretion. The program is not responsible for the outcomes of mentor matches or individual interactions.<\/li>\n
  • All mentors are required to complete a criminal background check<\/strong> prior to being matched.<\/li>\n
  • Participants are expected to respect confidentiality<\/strong> and not share personal information or stories outside of the mentoring relationship without permission.<\/li>\n
  • Communication should remain respectful, supportive, and appropriate<\/strong> at all times.<\/li>\n
  • Participants are encouraged to set and honor personal boundaries<\/strong>, including communication frequency and topics discussed.<\/li>\n
  • The program is intended to provide connection and encouragement<\/strong>, not crisis support. Participants should seek professional or emergency services when needed.<\/li>\n
  • Either participant may request to pause or end a match at any time<\/strong> for any reason.<\/li>\n
  • The program reserves the right to decline, pause, or discontinue participation<\/strong> if guidelines are not followed or if it is in the best interest of those involved.<\/li>\n
  • Due to the size of the rare disease community, it may take time to find the right mentor match<\/strong>, and while we strive to connect every participant, a match may not always be available. Our team is committed to making thoughtful pairings that best support each individual and family\u2019s needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
